Dr. Tracy Murphy, co-owner of North Shore Audiology Consultants, began her audiologic career at North Shore Audio-Vestibular Lab in 1993. She takes an active role in bringing contemporary hearing and balance care to her patients. Dr. Murphy's success as a practitioner stems from gaining a thorough understanding of a patient's medical history and establishing a proper diagnosis to ensure that the patient leaves with the best solution possible. Dr. Murphy firmly believes that knowledge is power and takes pride in educating her patients to understand their hearing loss and treatment recommendations. Patient loyalty is a testament to her long-standing dedication, skills, and ability to relate to the individual needs of her patients.
Dr. Murphy is active in state and national organizations, serving in roles that recognize her for her leadership abilities. In 2016, her peers elected her to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Audiology. Since completing her three-year board term, Dr. Murphy continues to serve in leadership roles on various committees within the Academy. She is also involved with interprofessional efforts outside the Academy that recognize and promote the importance of hearing health care. She is an active member of the Hearing Health Collaborative, a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals that was formed to understand the underlying barriers to accessing hearing health care and to define a plan to overcome those challenges.
Dr. Murphy enjoys teaching and lectures at the national conference for The American Academy of Audiology, has been an invited speaker at Rush and Northwestern Universities, was interviewed on the NBC weekend news about the impact of hearing loss in the workplace and has been a guest on WGN Radio with host Bill Moller. In January 2017, Dr. Murphy was recognized for her contributions to the field of Audiology by receiving Honors of the Illinois Academy of Audiology.
In her free time Dr. Murphy enjoys spending time with her family, traveling when possible, and mastering her golf game.
Dr. Kristine Trester, co-owner of North Shore Audiology Consultants, has been a part of the practice since 2012. Her philosophy is to obtain a comprehensive picture of the patient and their needs, which ultimately identifies the best course of treatment and/or rehabilitation. She obtained her doctorate at Rush University. Dr. Trester has been active at the national and state levels, currently serving on the Coding and Reimbursement Committee for the American Academy of Audiology and has previously served on the board for the Illinois Academy of Audiology.
Dr. Trester has won several awards for research investigating the noise levels associated with the Chicago Transit Authority trains and presented her research findings at both state and national conferences.
Dr. Trester’s passion for audiology stems from her personal experience with hearing loss. Born with hearing loss and currently wearing hearing aids, Dr. Trester truly empathizes with her patients and holds herself to the highest standards for both learning and providing exceptional patient care for optimal outcomes. She prides herself on the ability to build a trusting relationship with her patients, ultimately leading to improved communication and exceptional patient success.
When she is not seeing patients, she is a proud (and busy) mom of two. She enjoys her family time, in particular, boating during the summer months.
Dr. Deborah Milling has been an audiologist with North Shore Audio-Vestibular Lab for over 30 years. She is proud to say that she has spent her entire career with this dynamic, state-of-the-art practice. Dr. Milling is a people person who feels that no problem is too big or too small to solve. She enjoys the challenges of a busy hearing and balance practice.
Dr. Milling’s patients describe her as a good listener who excels at taking a comprehensive case history and performing a relevant diagnostic examination. She analyzes the information she obtains until she can find a productive solution to the patient’s hearing and/or balance problem(s). Her patients are attracted to her warmth and keen wit; she loves being an audiologist!
Dr. Sarah Monroe grew up in Cincinnati and moved to the Chicago area for graduate school. She earned her doctorate degree from Northwestern University, where she served as president of their Student Academy of Audiology chapter.
Dr. Monroe enjoys getting to know each patient’s individual goals and hearing and balance needs. She strives to develop meaningful relationships with patients and their families through education, compassion and conscientious listening. Her goal is to provide individualized care while ensuring her patients feel confident in their hearing and balance health care decisions. She believes in taking the time to thoroughly explain test results and recommendations so patients are involved and well-informed. The audiologist-patient relationship is a unique partnership that when navigated successfully, can improve quality of life by mitigating the impact of hearing and balance issues.
Outside of work, Dr. Monroe enjoys spoiling her pets (a dog and two cats), gardening, and baking (specifically cheesecake!). She also enjoys traveling, having already visited 11 countries.
